Happy start to Fall! I don't know about you, but this is one of my top four favorite seasons [if you didn't catch my lame joke, go back and re-read]. It brings us some of the best holidays, Starbucks Pumpkin Spice and Gingerbread Lattes and the slightly less caloric but equally delicious Fall fragrances collection from Bath & Body Works.
Apart from the heavenly food, beautiful warm colors and falling leaves, Autumn is a time to embrace the newest trends in beauty. Even though I'm still completely infatuated with coral shades, berry is the new "it" color. Had this been the case last year, I probably would've been bummed and resistant to the trend - for whatever reason, I've typically considered berry colors more matronly - but I'm actually excited and ready for the change. Beauty lines have been pumping out some really beautiful [non-matronly] berry-tinged products lately, and I've definitely gotten caught up in the hype...
... so without further ado, here are my picks for this season:
Blush. BENEFIT - Rockateur
Rockateur is the latest edition to the Benefit boxed blush family. Although it is described as a rose gold, I think it is more of a light, pinkish berry mixed with a bronze shimmer. Do not be deceived by the gold glitter on the top of the powder; it will disappear after the first use. This product leaves a beautiful rosy flush on the skin and is a flattering shade on many different skin types. Not only is Rockateur undoubtedly a must-have product for Fall, it has become a staple in my all-too-quickly-expanding makeup collection. I want to mention that this blush doesn't come with as much product (.17 oz) as its predecessors (.28 oz), but I still believe that it is worth the price ($28).
Lip Gloss. LAURA MERCIER - Lip Glacé - Rose
This luxurious gloss is the perfect solution for those of us who love reds and bold berries but think they typically don't look appropriate for daytime or natural enough. This shimmer-infused, day-to-night color tastes like cotton candy and fits in perfectly with this season's berry trend. I find myself reaching for this more than my bright lipsticks, and it brightens up my face once applied.Lip Balm. NUXE PARIS - Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
Although nothing can top my all time favorite lip balm Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss (especially for the price), I've found a product that can rival it (but it'll cost you). Nuxe Paris' Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm tastes like honey and orange, and its whipped texture applies to the lips like a dream. Although an unnecessary novelty, its frosted glass pot packaging is sturdy and feels luxurious.
You're likely now wondering if it's worth it. Like the Nivea Lip Butters, this balm thoroughly hydrates my dry, chapped lips but without leaving a white film like Nivea Lip Butters (although, I can't say I mind Nivea's film... I actually quite like it). You be the judge. If the price point isn't worth it to you, then stick with the Nivea Lip Butters; however, if your lips are resistant to all products you've tried, and you're ready to invest in some serious lip care, then this might be a great solution for you.
Eye Shadow. ESTÉE LAUDER - Pure Color EyeShadow Duo - 12 Raisins
If you think the packaging for this palette is heavenly, just wait until you get your hands on the shadows themselves. The lighter shade is a natural champagne-pink with slight shimmer than can be applied across the eyelid, and the darker color is a burgundy-berry crease color. These velvety shadows blend together seamlessly. I cannot think of a skin tone that this palette wouldn't suit, so do yourself a favor and test it out at your first opportunity. I guarantee that this timeless duo will become a permanent part of your makeup collection.Cream Shadow. MAYBELLINE NEW YORK - Color Tattoo by EyeStudio 24hr Eyeshadow - 25 Bad to the Bronze
This creamy bronze shadow compliments any berry tones you might have happening on your cheeks and/or lips. The easiest way to apply this product is to dot it on the eyelid with your ring finger. There is no need for a separate crease color with this product because it magically gives the illusion of a depth to your crease. It looks like you professionally applied two colors rather than one. This color can also be used as an eyeshadow primer or base, but it is lovely to wear on its own.
Body Butter.
The Body Shop Body Butter - Brazil Nut
There is nothing better for my incurably dry skin than The Body Shop Body Butters. The Strawberry Body Butter, which I raved about in my Summer Essentials, goes into hibernation (well, not completely) when Autumn hits and out comes my favorite cold-weather fragrance. Because my favorite Fall/Winter appropriate scent has been devastatingly discontinued (The Body Butter Duo in Macadamia, but you can still get it on Amazon), I have resorted to another great nutty and lightly spiced option: The Brazil Nut Body Butter.
